In a surprising turn of events, legal experts have raised concerns that President Joe Biden’s recent efforts to secure his son Hunter Biden’s freedom could inadvertently lead to legal trouble for him. They suggest that this move may open the door for Hunter to testify against his father, potentially exposing him to legal jeopardy.
Earlier this month, President Biden issued a sweeping pardon for Hunter, covering both known and potential offenses dating back to 2014. The clemency granted to his son was notably broader than the one given to former President Richard Nixon following the Watergate scandal.
Despite previously denying any intention to pardon his son, Biden defended his decision in a statement. He argued that “raw politics” had tainted Hunter’s conviction on a felony gun charge from September and suggested a similar political motive behind the Justice Department’s investigation into potential tax evasion charges against Hunter in California.
