The house where the actor and filmmaker had lived for 15 years was destroyed by a wildfire that started while he was in Austin, Texas, filming an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience.<\/p>\n

\nHomes were quickly engulfed in flames as the fire quickly spread throughout Gibson\u2019s neighborhood, according to the BBC. Luckily, before the fire reached his property, his longtime partner Rosalind Ross and their seven-year-old son Lars Gerard Gibson were able to safely leave.<\/p>\n
Gibson already knew that his community was at jeopardy when he spoke with Joe Rogan. He claimed that the region was \u201con fire\u201d and voiced his displeasure with California Governor Gavin Newsom\u2019s lack of action. In his criticism of Newsom, the Academy Award-winning filmmaker said, \u201cI think all our tax dollars probably went for Gavin\u2019s hair gel.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 69-year-old actor acknowledged that his $14.5 million Malibu property had been totally demolished when he returned to California. He described his response in an interview with Elizabeth Vargas Reports on NewsNation: \u201cI thought, \u2018Eh, I wonder if my place is still there.’\u201d It wasn\u2019t there when I arrived home, as expected.<\/p>\n

\nFor years, Mel Gibson had been trying to sell his enormous estate, even lowering the asking price by $3 million.<\/p>\n
Built in 1996, the sprawling estate was purchased by Gibson for $11.5 million in 2008. The Daily Mail claimed that the five-bedroom home had a castle-like turret and a majestic, old-world elegance.<\/p>\n
The actor acknowledged that the loss was extremely traumatic, but he was thankful that his family remained uninjured.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t get back a lot of my personal belongings that I had there,\u201d Gibson said.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cA variety of items, including pictures, documents, and, you know, just personal items I\u2019ve accumulated over the years, as well as clothes, are all pretty cool, but they can all be replaced.\u201d<\/p>\n
These are merely objects. The good news is that everyone in my family and people I love are doing well, and we are all content, safe, and out of danger. That\u2019s all I really care about.<\/p>\n
Gibson said, \u201cI\u2019ve never seen such a complete burn,\u201d describing the destruction in his area. He said that other famous people might have also lost their homes, such as Ed Harris, the actor who lives next door. According to reports, the fire also destroyed Paris Hilton\u2019s and Billy Crystal\u2019s residences.<\/p>\n
\u201cTotally toasted\u201d
\nRegarding his own property, the Braveheart star declared, \u201cIt was completely toasted.\u201d<\/p>\n
During his talk with Vargas, Mel Gibson also cracked a sinister joke.<\/p>\n
When I arrived home, I thought, \u201cWell, at least I don\u2019t have any of those annoying plumbing issues anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n
His \u201cchickens survived, it was amazing,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

The devastation is yet another sobering reminder of the state\u2019s chronic wildfire crisis. He told Fox News, \u201cApparently, some people were asleep on the job, mainly our leaders,\u201d in reference to the authorities\u2019 response.<\/p>\n
That is something they must endure. Children suffer from trauma. Someone needs to take responsibility for it.<\/p>\n
