The Democratic governor of Massachusetts expressed her support for arresting criminal undocumented immigrants, emphasizing the importance of \u201cthe apprehension of criminals in our communities.\u201d<\/p>\n
Gov. Maura Healey told reporters on Thursday that she supports the arrest of criminals, regardless of their immigration status, according to local news outlet WCVB.<\/p>\n
Fox News observed ICE Boston agents making eight arrests this week, including multiple MS-13 members, individuals with Interpol Red Notices, suspects wanted for murder and rape, and a violent Haitian gang member with 18 prior convictions. During the arrest, the gang member shouted, \u201cI ain\u2019t going back to Haiti!\u201d and \u201cF\u2014 Trump, Biden forever!\u201d<\/p>\n
The arrests follow the Trump administration\u2019s swift action to fulfill its promise of launching a historic mass deportation operation, which it has stated will primarily\u2014but not exclusively\u2014target individuals posing public safety threats.<\/p>\n
Addressing the arrests, Healey said she \u201cwouldn\u2019t describe them as raids,\u201d but instead, \u201cwhat it seems to be, and what we expected and what I support, which is the apprehension of criminals in our communities.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhether you\u2019re documented or undocumented, you commit crimes, you\u2019re subject to investigation and prosecution and accountability, and it looks like that is what happened,\u201d Healey said, according to Fox local outlet, Boston 25.<\/p>\n
But her comments appear to signal a massive turnabout from her previous positions before Trump was sworn in.<\/p>\n
Healey, who previously pledged to resist Trump\u2019s deportation efforts in November, emphasized that Massachusetts is not a sanctuary state, despite a 2017 ruling by the state Supreme Judicial Court that significantly restricts law enforcement cooperation with ICE.<\/p>\n
In November, Healey stated that state police would \u201cabsolutely not\u201d cooperate with Trump\u2019s mass deportation operations, vowing to use \u201cevery tool in the toolbox\u201d to \u201cprotect\u201d residents in the heavily Democratic state.<\/p>\n
